Coming soon

Howdy! Been a while since I’ve updated this site. Busy. Yes. Good news, I have a new mix that I’m working on. Better later than never.. right? Ha!

Hello 2011

What’s new? Well. Plenty. Just got back from a road trip with Crystal and Kila. Our journey extended from the Northwest to the Southwest back to the Northwest in a matter of a week, to see family and friends. Our destination cities included: Boise, ID; Salt Lake City, UT; Larimie, WY; Denver, CO; Farmington, NM; and Durango, CO. Yes, call us crazy, but hey, it was worth it. Why do people drive great distances while they can simply fly to their destination? Well, I like to think that maybe sometimes, trips are more about the journey and less about the destination. Also, we get to save money!

Here are some photos that I took with my iPhone. Yes, an iPhone. The damn thing makes for an excellent camera! I hope you enjoy these images.

Ace!

What could make a person want a certain bicycle so badly? Could it be the brand experience? Or could it be the way the bike is designed? Or perhaps a blend of both? Well, let me tell you, I’m convinced! I recently purchased a Raleigh road bike this summer, the 2010 Grand Sport to be exact. While the Grand Sport is almost perfect and quite affordable, it is a bike on the lower-end of the Raleigh spectrum, though it fits all the needs of the commuter cyclist with some extra room for some comfortable country rides.

Though I feel pretty lucky and comfortable with the bike that I have, if there was ever a dream bike that I would consider my true love, one and only, that would be the Raleigh “Record Ace”, pictured above. It’s simple yet sexy. As of lately, I’ve been thrown back into the cycling world with the influence of a friend. While living in Colorado and New Mexico, I used to cycle all time (mountain only). Call it therapy and it was! After moving to Seattle–four to almost five years ago–I’ve stepped out of my timid ways, to challenge my fears of cycling in a big city. Good thing though, is that Seattle is a city that supports cycling, with accessible lanes and enough riders to make the city compatible for cyclists. So to all good things in life, bicycles add to great things in life. Now with winter in full effect, I haven’t biked as much, perhaps that’s a new fear that I’d like to overcome as well.

A Film of Love and Compassion

So, I was one of the lucky few who had the chance to see this film, Dakota 38, at Seattle University, thanks to Longhouse Media. I didn’t really know what to expect, well slightly. I’d imagined this film would be your typical history film about the impact of colonization to the America’s, which it was, but without the negative hype. Rather, the film was about the removal of deep-treaded resentment toward non-Natives, it focused on healing, love and compassion. It made me emotional in some parts. Why? Because the story is real yet hopeful. Spirituality becomes the main healing component which allows a community to move past history and strive toward a hopeful future.

I’m not sure if the film will travel to your town, if it does, pay a visit. You will appreciate it deeply.

What’s coming for 2011?

Well, glad you’ve asked. Ha, actually you didn’t, but I’m going to tell you anyway. A bunch of new work updates with some new clients will be posted at the homepage of DGTL/NVJO. Along with these new updates, a brand new, polished, upgraded, super-charged, loaded with a flux-capacitor, and charged for warp speed, website! Yes. Stay tuned to www.dnvjostudio.com

Wanna make a logo?

Designers and artists! Want to make a logo for a contest? Yes, a contest! Washington University in St. Louis is opening up a logo content for their annual winter powwow and they need submissions by January 1st. There’s a cash prize along with appropriate exposure, so if you’re up to it, check out this link: http://buder.wustl.edu/Events/Documents/Pow%20Wow%20Logo%20Press%20Release.pdf

Here’s a sample of work done for Washington U, by your own, Mr. Ryan Redcorn. Check out his work here.

Designing for Social Justice

It’s something that I’ve been slowly working toward. I’ve recently had the privilege of working with a unique organization, Social Justice Fund Northwest, an organization dedicated to Social Justice philanthropy in the Pacific Northwest. My team over at DGTL/NVJO is working with them on a rebrand, a complete brand refresh coming for the new year (stay tuned for updates).

Here are some postcard/poster concepts for their most recent event, their annual dinner which was held at Seattle’s own Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center.
